Usefull for busness or school

I am currently a university student, I purchased this laptop because it was impractical to bring my other 17 inch DV 9000 laptop back and forth to school, especially with the added weight of books. (This laptop is much easier to carry around) This laptop has been a highly valuable tool. I have used it to take notes, draw diagrams, write programs, play games, and for internet use (I am even using it to write this review). The only issues I have encountered are: (not in any particular order) *The pen and touch sensitivity could be a little better. it is sometimes difficult to hit press menus with the touch interface and, the pen seems to always be a few pixels off no matter how much I calibrate it but is still good for rough sketches. *The screen seems granny compared to other LCD screens. *The LCD screen can be difficult to see in bright sunlight, but still seems better than most laptops I have seen. (Even in higher price ranges) *The right click button on the pen seems is hard to find some times and is kinda far back on the pen. *The pressure sensitivity of the pen doesn't seem to work. but I rarely use this and have found that pressure sensitivity can be annoying with some applications anyway. *The laptop doesn't currently support 2 finger touch scrolling, which other laptops using similar touch interfaces have. (I've heard that the windows 7 drivers have this though) *The monitor buttons can sometimes take a little while to respond. *The microphone seems to have gone fuzzy after upgrading to Vista sp2, worked fine before that, I hope there will be an update that will fix this soon. as it is now I have to tweak it a lot to get an understandable voice out of it. (this goes for both the monitor mic and microphones I plug into the front panel.) *Laptop can get hot when running high end graphics applications. (such as games) when this happens the fan will run a little loud but the laptops speakers are more capable of playing louder than the fan. *Had to send the laptop in for repair once because the express card plastic slipped out and got jammed between the monitor and keyboard while in my backpack, breaking off a few keys. (please note that if your storing the laptop in a backpack try to avoid placing the laptop in with the express card slot down) *When I tried to update the graphics driver with the one on the hp support site, the 3D capability seemed to disappear, I had to locate the original driver in the SwSetup folder to get it back. Please note that I have owned the laptop for about 5 months now, the battery life is about 2 hours with the supplied battery and seems still seems to last about that long even now. I have been very impressed with the wireless card and can get decent uninterrupted signals in most locations, I have yet to find a place where the wireless card fails. The bluetooth also seems to work great, I haven't used bluetooth much but the bluetooth on this laptop is the best I have used to date, it is able to communicate with every device I have paired it with and has even revealed a few features of those devices that I have not been able to access with any other device. I use this laptop all the time, for just about every project I can think up. And even though I have quite a list of complaints, these issues are minor compared to the overall performance of the laptop.

Buy it

It is light. You can write on it with your hand. If you buy the accessories you will not need all of them but some.

MY LOVELY HP

I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT IT GETS VERY VERY HOT ON THE BACK RIGHT HAND SIDE. SOMETIMES I LIFT IT UP SO IT CAN COOL DOWN. THE FAN IS ALSO LOUD, IF IT WAS MORE SILENT IT WOULD BE A LOT BETTER. WOULD LOVE IT TO IF THE SCREEN WOULD ROTATE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN CONVERTING THE LAPTOP IN2 A TABLET. OTHER THAN THAT I'M HAPPY WITH IT..!!

Very impressive features so compact

I love my touch smart 1020.... Comes with alot of features... as an IT person ...this is an impressive notebook and very compact... does not take up much room at all... I love it!!! ..... I have recommened this notebook to several friends already....

Not What I Expected!!!

. . The fan is extremely loud. The bottom rear is very hot. Countinously receiving an error message when trying to download programs. (software doesnt support your windows 64-bit system) And the kicker, which is the real reason I purchased this notebook was because I was told that the input panel would allow me to have my client's sign a pdf document right on the touch screen.
